Philippine actor
Vhong Navarro has denied attempting to sexually assault a 22-year-old student
before he was beaten up, saying that he was forced to say that he had attempted
to rape the student by men who held him at gunpoint.
He said that even at
the police station afterward he couldn’t tell the truth because he felt that
his wife and son were in danger.
The situation upset
Anne Curtis, Navarro’s fellow ‘It’s Showtime” host, who shed tears while
offering a prayer for Navarro after he was attacked.
The police blotter
showed that Ferdinand Navarro (Vhong’s real name) admitted to sexually
assaulting the unidentified student, after he came to her apartment with a
take-out dinner.
Navarro allegedly
followed her into her room and tried to take off her clothes.
However, the report
then says that two men then made a “citizen arrest” to rescue their friend from
Navarro, and then took him to the police station.
But Navarro said that
the men actually held him at gunpoint and threatened him and his family.
He told Buzz Ng
Bayan that his death flashed through his mind while the men were threatening
him.
“I’m not a rapist. I
don’t do drugs. I’m a God-fearing person. I love my family,” he said from his
hospital bed on Sunday. “I want justice. I want someone to pay for what
happened to me,” Navarro said. “I’m scared for my kids, for my family. These
people threatened to hurt my family if I would tell the police what really
happened.”
Navarro said that the
men recorded the video as an extortion attempt, telling him that they wouldn’t
leak it to the media if he paid them an undislosed sum.
